Skincare Diary #8

With a love for trying and testing skincare products, and new pieces arriving through my letterbox on a regular basis, my skincare routine has the tendency to veer a little out of control from time to time. Come winter, my skin ALWAYS suffers - dry patches, nasty breakouts, and the inevitable dull winter skin have all reared their heads by Halloween so my recent skincare practice has involved a serious 'back to basics' approach. I've not only narrowed my product selection down to the best of the best (a combination of my personal favourites and some new (pre-tested) winter-appropriate pieces), but I'm committed to sticking to this routine until (at least) mid-January. I'm no creature of habit when it comes to skincare so this is an ambitious goal indeed - but a consistent and reliable routine works wonders for the skin, so here is the skincare diary I'll be sticking to until spring (apologies in advance for the repetition).

Monday Morning : La Roche-Posay Physiological Gel Cleanser*, Clarisonic Aria*, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+, Origins Super Spot Remover, Sisley Confort Extreme Day Cream*. Evening : Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, Radical Hydrating Cleanser*, Pixi Glow Skin Tonic, Hydraluron, Radical Youth Infusion Serum*, Radical Restorative Moisturiser*, Verso Super Eye Serum*.

The La Roche-Posay cleanser is one I WISH I had discovered sooner. It's the most gentle and nourishing gel cleanser I've ever used, and leaves my skin feeling super calm and hydrated. It's formulated for very dry skin (which I certainly don't have), but it's an ideal morning cleanser for colder climes.

Tuesday Morning : La Roche-Posay Physiological Gel Cleanser*, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+Origins Super Spot RemoverSisley Confort Extreme Day Cream*. Afternoon : Garnier Micellar Cleansing WaterRadical Hydrating Cleanser*, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+. Evening : Avene Extremely Gentle CleanserPixi Glow Skin TonicHydraluronRadical Youth Infusion Serum*, Radical Restorative Moisturiser*, Verso Super Eye Serum*.

After my recent facial with Radical Skincare (see here) I'm truly besotted with the brand. The products do EXACTLY what they say on the tin and are perfectly formulated for sensitive skin. This cleanser is deliciously soft and creamy (and smells like oranges), leaving my skin feeling calm and soothed even after a double cleanse. The serum left my skin looking brighter after one use so was an instant winner in my book, and the moisturiser is the perfect 'winter coat' which seals everything in. A VERY satisfying skincare cocktail indeed.

Wednesday Morning : La Roche-Posay Physiological Gel Cleanser*, Clarisonic Aria*, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+Origins Super Spot RemoverSisley Confort Extreme Day Cream*. Afternoon : Garnier Micellar Cleansing WaterRadical Hydrating Cleanser*, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+. Evening : Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser, Aesop Parsley Seed Cleansing Masque, Nars Restorative Night Treatment, Origins Drinkup Intensive Overnight MaskVerso Super Eye Serum*.

Wednesday is mid-week facial day - my dear old friend from Aesop reigns true as one of my favourite skincare pick-me-ups. It's the perfect mask as it seems to do a little bit of everything, and always leaves my skin looking clearer, brighter, and calmer post-use. This Nars skin treatment is a JOY to use. It has a jelly-like texture which softens into a soothing oil upon application and provides an instant injection of hydration to my skin, which leaves it noticeably softer and glowy come sunrise.

Thursday Morning : La Roche-Posay Physiological Gel Cleanser*, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+Origins Super Spot RemoverSisley Confort Extreme Day Cream*. Evening : Garnier Micellar Cleansing WaterRadical Hydrating Cleanser*, Pixi Glow Skin TonicHydraluronRadical Youth Infusion Serum*, Radical Restorative Moisturiser*, Verso Super Eye Serum*.

You may have noticed that I've switched up spot-treatments - I always find that they grow less effective over time, and although my previous one was brilliant and lasted a good nine months, I'm adoring Origins' offering. It is very strong and drying, but when used correctly is an absolute skincare hero. Blemishes begone.

Friday Morning : La Roche-Posay Physiological Gel Cleanser*, Clarisonic Aria*, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+Origins Super Spot RemoverSisley Confort Extreme Day Cream*. Evening : Garnier Micellar Cleansing WaterRadical Hydrating Cleanser*, Pixi Glow Skin TonicHydraluronRadical Youth Infusion Serum*, Radical Restorative Moisturiser*, Verso Super Eye Serum*.

As for that Sisley cream which keeps popping up (an INSTANT favourite), it's possibly the most luxe and satisfyingly good face cream I have ever used. Nourishing and soft, within seconds of application it restores my skin to a state of calm and comfort (the opposite of that tight/dry feeling characteristic of winter skin), leaving a smooth, soft base. I could literally talk about it all day, but will refrain.

Saturday Morning : La Roche-Posay Physiological Gel Cleanser*, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+Origins Super Spot RemoverSisley Confort Extreme Day Cream*. Evening - Garnier Micellar Cleansing WaterRadical Hydrating Cleanser*, Pixi Glow Skin TonicHydraluronRadical Youth Infusion Serum*, Radical Restorative Moisturiser*, Verso Super Eye Serum*.

Another standard day skincare-wise. I'm working quite late nights at work so I usually end up taking my makeup off just a few hours before bed, instead of in the afternoon. I don't like to overload my skin with too many products within such a short space of time, but at the same time I want to ensure that my skin is clean and all of it's ailments effectively treated. The above are the products which hit the balance between strong/effective and gentle/calming.

Sunday Morning : La Roche-Posay Physiological Gel Cleanser*, Clarisonic Aria*, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+Origins Super Spot RemoverSisley Confort Extreme Day Cream*. Afternoon : Garnier Micellar Cleansing WaterRadical Hydrating Cleanser*, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+. Evening : Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser, Avene Cleanance Mask*, Sarah Chapman Overnight Facial*, Origins Drinkup Intensive Overnight MaskVerso Super Eye Serum*.

A luxe and lengthy facial indeed as befits Sunday tradition. I adore this Avene mask - it's incredibly effective but also fantastic for dry or sensitive skin. The Sarah Chapman Facial Oil is the perfect product for facial massage, it's really rich but not too thick so doesn't leave a nasty greasy layer on top of the skin. Paired with my trusty Origins mask, it's guaranteed to combat the Monday morning blues (skincare-wise at least).

As an additional step in the direction of clearer and calmer skin, I've started taking supplements in the form of Help : Clear Skin* - a dissolvable powder taken with water once a day, which contains a cocktail of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory ingredients. I've only been taking it for a few weeks so have yet to see results, but it is founded upon some pretty strong scientific research (and if anything is making me drink more water!). I'll keep you informed...

Which products make up your staple skincare diary these days?
