Skincare Diary #9

Well, it's been a long time since one of these posts graced the homepage of TGG [almost three months!] - the reason being that my skincare routine has remained fairly constant since my last diary. Aside from a few recent additions, I've been sticking to products which I'm familiar with and which work well with my skin - calming, hydrating, and [most importantly!] not aggravating.

MONDAY Morning : La Roche-Posay Physiological Gel Cleanser, Clarisonic Aria*, La Roche-Posay Serozinc*, Radical Restorative Moisturiser*. Evening : Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser, Pixi Glow Tonic, Hydraluron, La Roche-Posay Serozinc, Racinne Ultimate Aqua Blanc Treatment*, Verso Night Cream*, Dior Hydra-Life Eye Cream.

A makeup-free day calls for constant application of Serozinc and moisturiser - what can I say, my winter ravaged skin is in serious need of some TLC. I'm adoring Serozinc - it's been the perfect antidote to the inflammation and redness currently blighting my complexion so I don't miss an opportunity to apply it [as you'll see below].

TUESDAY Morning : La Roche-Posay Physiological Gel CleanserLa Roche-Posay Serozinc, Sisley Tropical Resins Complex*. Evening : Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, Radical Hydrating Cleanser*, Pixi Glow TonicHydraluronLa Roche-Posay SerozincRacinne Ultimate Aqua Blanc TreatmentVerso Night CreamDior Hydra-Life Eye Cream.

A long day today, so this morning's skincare was all about creating a sound base for my makeup. The Sisley serum is light, silky, and formulated with a powder blend which absorbs excess oil - ideal if you have a long day of makeup wear ahead of you and don't trust your foundation to survive intact until evening.

WEDNESDAY Morning : La Roche-Posay Physiological Gel CleanserClarisonic AriaLa Roche-Posay SerozincSisley Tropical Resins Complex. Afternoon : Garnier Micellar Cleansing WaterRadical Hydrating CleanserLa Roche-Posay SerozincJurlique Purely Bright Spot Treatment. Evening : Aesop Exfoliant Paste*, Eve Lom Rescue Mask*, Radical Instant Revitalising Mask*, HydraluronLa Roche-Posay SerozincRacinne Ultimate Aqua Blanc TreatmentVerso Night CreamDior Hydra-Life Eye Cream.

Wednesdays call for a mid-week facial - I don't think I've actually used any masks but these two in recent weeks, they're both ideally suited to counter the skincare concerns I'm battling, and do so with a serious A-game. The Eve Lom mask is amazing at calming redness as well as giving my complexion a really thorough deep cleanse and overall boost. Followed up with Radical's uhh-mazing offering [seriously I'm smitten with this guy] my skin is left super soft as well as noticeably brighter and calmer [for real, I usually spend a good 5 minutes marvelling over just how good my skin looks after these two skincare powerhouses].

THURSDAY Morning : La Roche-Posay Physiological Gel CleanserLa Roche-Posay SerozincRacinne Ultimate Hydra Advanced Luminous Gel*. Evening : Garnier Micellar Cleansing WaterRadical Hydrating Cleanser, Pixi Glow TonicHydraluronLa Roche-Posay SerozincRacinne Ultimate Aqua Blanc TreatmentVerso Night CreamDior Hydra-Life Eye Cream.

A new number today - this light gel from my new favourite skincare brand Racinne, is ticking all the AM skincare boxes for me. A 2-in-1 skincare miracle-product, it gives intense hydration whilst simultaneously providing my skin with the smooth, matte surface required before makeup application. If you find that primers aggravate your skin/clog pores etc, then this would be a brilliant alternative. One use and I'm hooked.

FRIDAY Morning : La Roche-Posay Physiological Gel CleanserClarisonic AriaLa Roche-Posay Serozinc, Radical Restorative Moisturiser. Evening : Aesop Exfoliant PasteEve Lom Rescue MaskRadical Instant Revitalising MaskHydraluronLa Roche-Posay Serozinc*, Racinne Ultimate Aqua Blanc TreatmentVerso Night CreamDior Hydra-Life Eye Cream.

My evening skincare is ALL about fighting redness and reducing blemish scars, and between these carefully collated picks I'm really noticing a difference. The Racinne treatment is a silkily textured serum which absorbs instantly and works to brighten pigmentation - it has an instantly calming effect and smells tantalising. The Verso night cream is an old favourite which contains a super powerful dose of retinol [the good kind] and antioxidants to calm and repair damaged skin. Just what I need.

SATURDAY Morning : La Roche-Posay Physiological Gel CleanserLa Roche-Posay SerozincRacinne Ultimate Hydra Advanced Luminous Gel. Afternoon : Garnier Micellar Cleansing WaterRadical Hydrating CleanserLa Roche-Posay SerozincJurlique Purely Bright Spot Treatment. Evening : Aesop Exfoliant PasteEve Lom Rescue MaskRadical Instant Revitalising MaskHydraluronLa Roche-Posay SerozincRacinne Ultimate Aqua Blanc TreatmentVerso Night CreamDior Hydra-Life Eye Cream.

Another brightening/scar-fading wonder-product comes in the form of the above Jurlique spot treatment. Firstly, thumbs up to Jurlique for producing a product which not only prevents blemishes, but also deals with the after-effects [we need more products like this!]. Formulated with a blend of Niacinamide and Citric Peel [powerful anti-inflammatories] it is quite strong so you really don't need to apply a lot, but after just a few weeks of daily use it has made such a difference.

SUNDAY Morning : La Roche-Posay Physiological Gel CleanserClarisonic AriaLa Roche-Posay SerozincRadical Restorative Moisturiser. Evening : Aesop Exfoliant PasteEve Lom Rescue MaskRadical Instant Revitalising MaskHydraluronLa Roche-Posay Serozinc, Sarah Chapman Skinesis Overnight FacialDior Hydra-Life Eye Cream.

Ending the week with another makeup free day and a facial - my skin LOVES days like these. If you're in need of a serious skincare boost, I'd really recommend using two masks in succession - follow up a deep cleansing one with something a little gentler/more hydrating, and you'll notice a real difference. A note on the Dior eye cream : if you have sensitive eyes and seek a cream which soothes ad de-puffs, then here is the one.

Which products make up your staple skincare diary these days?

September Beauty Picks

This month has been all about adapting my beauty routine to the changing weather. Where skincare is concerned, I'm after stability - so the winners are those products which I can rely on no matter what condition my skin is in and which help it to retain a relative level of normality. I like to mix up my makeup with each season, so whilst I keep my staple favourites in place I do like to chop and change the smaller elements for a little bit of a seasonal twist (more to come on this VERY soon)...

Verso Night Cream* I've rattled on about my beloved Verso Eye Serum many a time over the past few months but haven't really given much mention to it's night cream counterpart, despite the fact that it's a regular in my routine. Formulated with Retinol 8 (a Vitamin A complex eight times more effective than standard retinol) and a powerful blend of antioxidants, this light gel-like lotion helps to increase collagen production and protect skin from environmental damage - leaving it calm, hydrated and positively glowing. Within a week of using this I'd noticed my skin looking SO MUCH clearer and brighter. A+++ for sure.

Nars Blush in Douceur A wishlist staple since I first read a review on Jen's blog, I finally picked this soft pink-brown blush up during ASOS's recent 25% off for students. From a (very) pale girl's perspective this is hands down THE BEST contour I have ever used, and has easily replaced my (once beloved) Hoola bronzer. It's so so subtle but perfect for sculpting a really natural contoured effect. Added to that, it brings a bit of life and colour to my ghostly complexion and doubles up beautifully as an eyeshadow. I honestly wish I'd bought it sooner and can't believe it doesn't have a hype. One to watch, for sure.

Leonor Greyl Bain Volumateur Aux Algues* Those of you who grew up with Johnson's Baby Shampoo will feel a burst of nostalgia for the scent of this (slightly more luxe) haircare staple of mine. A rich but lightweight shampoo, this is PERFECT for adding volume to thick and heavy hair - leaving it soft, silky, clean and voluminous for days after use.

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Wash Eyeshadow in Bronze Over the past few weeks I've started to wear eyeshadow on a much more regular basis. Whereas previously it was really only something I reached for on special occasions or for work, I now apply it more or less every time I wear makeup. This pretty, neutral shade has been a favourite in my collection for well over a year but has become my go-to shade for daily wear. It's effortlessly wearable, easy to apply, and subtle, but can easily be built up into something a bit more.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Cleanser* The star of my most recent Skincare Diary returns to the spotlight once again. My skin is FUSSY, and when it comes to cleansers, for me, less is more. Gentle but effective, this clear gel is specially formulated to avoid irritation, and works to reduce the bacteria and excess sebum which cause breakouts, as well as calm irritated skin. If you're a fan of Effaclar Duo or have troubled/blemish prone skin then I can't recommend this cleanser enough. It's basically ED in cleanser form (it even has the same scent). Love love love ALL AROUND.

What were your beauty favourites this month?

Bedside Beauty

Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset Although the major part of my daily beauty routine takes place at either my dressing table or bathroom sink, I do like to keep a small selection of products to hand to use before getting tucked up into bed. For me, those final 20 minutes before lights out are ALL about relaxing, indulging, and winding down in true beauty blogger style. So, with your beauty hats on, welcome to a one stop edit of my bedside essentials...

Aesop Mandarin Facial Hydrating Cream* Say hello to my new 10-hour sleep cheat. I know moisturisers are supposed to be simple, single-purpose, and fuss-free (I'm sure you're all familiar with Mrs Hirons' winter coat analogy), but think of this as picking up that Céline coat you've been lusting after, as opposed to your bog standard Zara (no offence Zara, we love you really). Cool, soothing, and instantly hydrating  - this lightweight cream is enriched with hazel (a soft and easily absorbed but rich moisturiser), and numerous citrus oils for A* hydration and an instantly glowing complexion.

Verso Eye Serum* Wave goodbye to fine lines, dark circles, and puffy bags with the help of this cool (in both senses of the word), refreshing serum from Verso (seriously, could that packaging be more chic??). Formulated with Retinol 8 (eight times more effective than standard retinol, but also significantly less irritant), this lightweight gel is free from parabens, sulphates, and other irritants in order to be 100% suitable for those with sensitive skin. My sensitive skin (and eyes) have given this their full seal of approval.

The Body Shop Facial Massager A desert island must-have. When I have the energy to indulge in 15 minutes of reading before bed this trusty gadget is certain to be at hand. After months of use I've perfected the art of holding a book in one hand, and gently rolling this in upwards motions across my cheeks (from chin to temple) with the other - so much so that I barely even have to think about it. It's hard to believe but this bizarre little ritual has had profound results upon my skin - the massaging action stimulates blood cells and encourages better absorption of products - meaning congested skin and scarring are a thing of the past.

Burt's Bees' Lemon Cuticle Cream On the rare occasion that I don't have nail polish on (that's some 2015 new year's resolution material right there already!) then a good lathering of this light, easily-absorbed cream is first on the pre-sleep agenda. Intensive moisture, but without the stickiness, what's not to love?

Caudalie Hand & Nail Cream On a VERY similar note to the above. I hate the feeling of greasy hands (especially before bed)  - and I've tried many a hand cream - but nothing absorbs (yet works) quite so well as this DREAMILY scented offering from Caudalie. I'm a fool for all things honey so adore the scent of this cream - which is also enriched with anti-oxidants, avocado, and shea butter, and leaves my hands beautifully soft.

This Works Deep Sleep Stress Less I don't really care whether it's 'all in the head' or simply the effect of lavender's reassuringly homely aroma, but after a quick roll of this across my wrists I'm certain to sleep sooner and deeper. This adorably tiny vial has been a regular fixture on my dressing table for well over six months now but looks barely used. An essential for the insomniacs amongst you.

Aesop Rosehip Seed Lip Cream* Not a nightly occurrence - there's something really peculiar about applying lip products after brushing your teeth (just me?). This rich, featherlight cream is certain to bring chapped lips back from the brink - even when verging on 'Sahara'. Not a balm per se, but a loose, silky cream - much more like applying a moisturiser to the lips - this has the effect of providing an instant injection of hydration and leaves lips kissably soft and smooth.

I'm in the middle of a house move (exciting!) so there are no artfully arranged bedside table snaps for you today (sorry!) - but as always, I suggest heading to Pinterest for the ULTIMATE interior inspo!

If you're not asleep already, then DO fill me in on your bedside beauty essentials!

PS. And for those wondering re. Stoner, I cannot recommend it enough.
