Seasonal Skincare: The Autumn Edit
Changing seasons means MORE than just a wardrobe revamp, and when it comes to collating our autumn skincare routine, we need to factor in the climate just as much as we do when umming and aahing over the season's selection of coats. So postpone your winter coat purchase (for now), and get notebook and pen at the ready, because right now your skin needs some serious TLC.
Autumn skincare needs to do two things. Firstly, it needs to deal with post-summer skin. Three months of sun, sea, and humidity can leave our skin looking and feeling stressed and dehydrated - so now's the time to soothe, nourish, and most importantly, replenish moisture.
As the nights draw in quicker and colder it's necessary not just to restore and balance the moisture levels of sun-parched skin, but to nourish and protect skin against the increasingly chillier climate. The battle between cold air and central heating can wreak havoc upon our skin, leaving it sore, dry, and easily irritated - a look only en vogue on October 31st.
Find below a one-stop compilation of the skincare pieces which I'll be reaching for this season in order to keep the flakiness at bay and see my skin through to winter - glow intact.
Eve Lom Intense Hydration Serum* This non-greasy, easily absorbed, clear gel gives skin an instant and intensive boost of moisture. Essentially a VERY pure form of hyaluronic acid - a deeply hydrating ingredient which attracts moisture and can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water. Apply post-toning, and before applying any oils or moisturisers in order to maximise their benefits to FULL potential.
Origins Drink-Up Intensive Overnight Mask You'll find me reaching for this hero-product ALL year round, but its (intensively) moisturising capabilities could not be passed over for an edit which is all about hydration. Use once a week in place of your evening moisturiser and expect to wake up in the morning with soft, plump, glowing skin. Packed with avocado and apricot oils for instant and long-lasting hydration, and Japanese Seaweed which reinforces the skin's natural barrier to prevent dehydration - this should be TOP of your beauty shopping list.
Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask One glance at the ingredients list (vanilla, avocado, honey, grapeseed oil, carrot oil, Vitamin E) is enough to reveal the PERFECT antidote to stressed, sensitive skin. Intensive moisture accompanied by a hefty dose of anti-oxidants and a sweet vanilla scent, this do-it-all mask will see you from September to November - soothing the effects of sun-parched skin, and providing an optimal injection of moisture to keep your skin soft and bright all autumn long.
Eve Lom TLC Radiance Cream* Tender loving care in cream form makes dry patches a thing of the past. This lightweight day cream provides intensive moisturisation and contains a blend of highly effective ingredients to protect skin from environmental damage, minimise imperfections, brighten, and lift. An essential in my autumn skincare artillery, this miracle cream makes the transition from summer to winter skincare effortless AND luxe.
Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser Another product which pops up over here on TGG rather a lot, but with very good reason. This is a constant repurchase for me, so if your evening skincare needs are anything like mine (gentle, but thorough and moisturising) then jot down the name right this second. This light, refreshing lotion is formulated specifically for those with HYPER-sensitive skin and is the gentlest cleanser I have ever used. Soothe stressed out skin with this beauty and it'll be back on track in no time.
Organic Pharmacy Herbal Toner* The Organic Pharmacy have turned the final step of our cleansing routine into the first step towards nourishing our skin with this gentle, refreshing toner. Guaranteed to revitalise and replenish dull and tired skin, this is no 'swipe and wipe' cleanser remover. Packed with a complex blend of eight different herbs which work to nourish and balance the complexion, this soothing mist calms the skin and prepares it for the application of serums/moisturisers etc. Yes ladies, toning just got luxe.
